about
The Sabin Community Native Garden and Sabin Edible Garden are the fruit of student, teacher and neighbor volunteer involvement in the Sabin neighborhood of Portland, and are also shared and supported by the ACCESS Academy community. The gardens are located at Sabin Elementary School, 4013 NE 18th, Portland, Oregon 97212.
This Website is designed to help continue the success of the Sabin Gardens by assisting with education and stewardship.
History
The Sabin Community Native Gardens was created in 2005 by the Sabin PTA under the leadership of Emily Ziglinski. The garden was designed as a Portland Clean Rivers project to filter runoff from the blacktop adjacent to Sabin School, and to serve as a community resource and an outdoor classroom for Sabin students. In 2008, under Ken Rumbaugh’s leadership, the PTA created the Sabin Edible Garden to give students at the school the opportunity to learn about gardening and healthy food.
